Albert Earnshaw 1887 – 1918

Family Details:

Albert was born at Bradley, Huddersfield on 25th August 1887 the son of Henry and Margaret Earnshaw (Nee Beckwith) who had married 29 May 1880 at Bradley. He was baptised on the 2nd October 1887 at Bradley. Arthur was born in 1881 followed by Edith born in Clifton Brighouse in 1885.

The family was living at 40, Bradley Road when the 1891 census was taken. Lewis was born on the 27th December 1892 followed by Wilfred in 1897 and George Thomas in 1900 and another child had died in infancy.

Before 1901 the family had moved to 23 Back Oak Road, Dalton, Huddersfield.

His father, Henry died April 1908 and in 1911 Alfred was living in The Cleveland Club in Middlesbrough as a Billiard Marker and his mother was living in Bradley.

On 5th February 1916 he married Widow Annie Ethel Brearley nee Ramsden at St. Andrew’s, Purlwell, Batley and the couple went to live at No.1 Yard 7, Hilberoyd Road, Batley. For a time Albert worked at Soothill Wood Coke Ovens.

Service Details:

Albert enlisted at Pontefract in 1916 and moved to the south of England in the Labour Corps. He did not serve overseas.
He suffered pneumonia and died at 10 am on Saturday, 19th October 1918 at Bramshott Military Hospital Hants.
